Brisbane serves up second course of Sea to the City

Deputy Mayor Krista Adams today announced Sea to the City – Brisbane’s bug and oyster trail would be returning on Sunday 13 October.

Cr Adams said 17 restaurants in the Eagle Street riverside dining precinct would participate in the highly anticipated alfresco seafood event, which champions the region’s renowned seafood staples Moreton Bay bugs and oysters.

“After a fantastic pilot year, we are welcoming Sea to the City back to our Brisbane streets to give residents and visitors another way to enjoy our enviable climate and iconic riverside spaces,” she said.

“Sea to the City delivers on Brisbane City Council’s commitment to create more for residents to see and do, while showcasing some of our award-winning restaurants.

“I’m delighted to unveil the 2019 menu today that includes over 50 enticing dishes, including Kentucky fried bug rolls by Jellyfish Restaurant, Bloody Mary Pacific Oysters by Mr & Mrs G Riverbar and a twist on the classic BLT – Bug, lettuce and tomato by Blackbird Bar & Grill.

“Anyone who peruses this innovative menu will be tempted to put Sea to the City in their diary as there’s something to suit everybody’s palette.”

Cr Adams said the trail promised to deliver pop-up bars, markets and live music, against the backdrop of the Brisbane River.

“Last year, thousands of people experienced the seafood trail and we are making it even bigger and better this year” Cr Adams said.

“Even more restaurants have signed up including Massimo Restaurant & Bar, George’s Paragon Seafood Restaurant and the newest Eagle Street restaurant – Rico Bar & Dining.

“The restaurateurs are keen to get involved, not just for increased foot traffic and boosted revenue, but to raise the profile of Brisbane’s premier riverside dining precinct.”

Madame Wu’s Executive Chef Brendon Barker said Sea to the City was the perfect opportunity for restaurants to join forces and put on a spectacular seafood spread along the riverfront.

“The chefs will bring their best to the table and devise adventurous dishes that celebrate Moreton Bay bugs and oysters, while reflecting our own signature styles,” Mr Barker said.

“We’re excited to deliver a relaxed and sophisticated seafood experience that gives visitors a taste of what Brisbane has to offer and has them coming back for more.

“Sea to the City is about chefs stepping out of the kitchen to connect with visitors and neighbouring restaurants and really showcases the culinary talent, fantastic views, and alfresco atmosphere this stretch of the river is known for.”

Sea to the City is part of a free calendar of events produced by Brisbane’s economic development board Brisbane Marketing through Brisbane City Council.
